In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies,
but the silence of our friends.

- Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

HIDDEN HISTORIES, 2018

Nowadays

The universe is weeping.

Perhaps time will give it time

to come to its senses

and rise above the anguish.

Things are bad. Stars cry. Mountains howl.

Seas tremble. The universe goes on bristling

with riverings of tears.

Let us, for tomorrows sake,

lend our tired hands

to help lift it beyond revilement;

to unshackle what is needed most -

a chance to shout hallelujah — Gordon Parks

TENOR OF LIGHT, 2020

“I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality… I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word”.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

LAYING BARE THE PAST, 2020

Excavating layers of history, layers of time.

Isabel Wilkerson - Pulitzer Prize-wining journalist, in an interview with PBS Judy Woodruff about her book Caste. “The goal of this work is to allow us to see, again, the structure that we have inherited, to be able to push forward, but, most importantly, to recognize that we all have a stake in it, and to recognize that it will take each and every one of us to make it the strongest house possible”. Wilkerson uses the metaphor of a house to describe America.

Drayton Hall, South Carolina

It is my hope, that through this lens, looking back in time, that somehow, we can begin to see ourselves and be reminded that we are all woven into this social fabric of time, history, and life. This work is not only a document of our past but an emotional metaphor expressing our need for the renewal of compassion for others. It is up to all of us to inspire change.
